The Coalition of Monterey County Chambers of Commerce held a
special reception February 16 to present Gill Campbell,
CEO/general manager of Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca with the 2012
Economic Leadership Award. The recognition was for Campbell’s
dedicated leadership in economic development and contribution of
substantial resources to chambers of commerce throughout the
Monterey county region.
America’s Car Museum (ACM) and Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca (MRLS)
have entered into a reciprocal marketing agreement that provides
advertising and display opportunities for the museum during
events at the raceway in Monterey, Calif., with similar
opportunities for MRLS at the new automotive museum opening in
Tacoma, Wash. in June.
Under the five-year agreement, Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca will
become the “Official Race Track of America’s Car Museum,”
receiving advertising opportunities in museum publications and
access to ACM’s Club Auto satellite facilities.
The fourth annual Race ‘N’ Rod Nationals presented by Mothers,
Saturday, September 8th from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., will feature a
stunning colorful array of some of the most beautiful cars and
trucks ever built and customized. The popular event will be held
in the Yamaha Marketplace during the Continental Tire Sports Car
Festival powered by Mazda September 7-9, 2012.
Participants may enter for a low $35 fee that includes two
Saturday race day general admission tickets, a T-shirt, Poker
Run, Mothers Goody Bag and an on-track parade lap.
Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca was among six local businesses honored
by the Monterey County Business Council at its 16th Anniversary
Gala held this past Saturday. The world renowned race track
received an Economic Vitality Award in the tourism category for
its ongoing work in attracting significant business revenue and
worldwide media exposure to the Monterey Peninsula.
Following a successful 2011 season with ABC/ESPN which resulted
in a double-digit increase in audience size, the American Le Mans
Series presented by Tequila Patrón today unveiled its full
broadcast schedule for the 2012 season, highlighted by four live
broadcasts, four ABC broadcasts and an entire season of
lap-by-lap coverage online.
The Yamaha Factory Racing Team completed the first test of the
2012 season at the Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia.
Riders Jorge Lorenzo and Ben Spies spent the three track days
working to develop the base set up of the 1000cc YZR-M1 ahead of
the second Sepang test in one month’s time.
For nearly two decades the Sports Car Racing Association of the
Monterey Peninsula (SCRAMP) has offered special services for its
disabled spectators designed for ease of accessibility. For these
efforts the Monterey County Commission on Disabilities recently
awarded the organization special recognition.
Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca’s popular monthly bicycle rides that
are enjoyed by hundreds of local riders each month return in 2012
with the added pedal power of Rabobank, which becomes the
presenting sponsor.

Racing in 2012, televising all 13 Rolex Sports Car Series events
either live or on a same-day delay basis.
