The Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix featuring the MotoGP World
Championship returns to Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca for its eighth
consecutive year in 2012.
MotoGP is the premier motorcycle racing World Championship; an
eighteen-race series visiting fourteen countries, four continents
and with global television coverage. Nine nationalities of the
world’s most skilled riders line a grid armed with cutting edge
motorcycle technology with prototype machinery fielded by three
manufacturers; Ducati, Yamaha and Honda.
More than 2.2 million people came through the gates of the
circuits to watch MotoGP in 2011.
There are very few places where racing fans can go to witness the
melodic sounds of Ferrari racing cars, such as the race-equipped
F430 and F458, and the track-honed 599XX, FXX and Formula 1 at
full throttle. This May, Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca will provide
that rare experience for fans of the Italian coachbuilder and car
lovers alike.
At 860 horsepower, the Ferrari FXX is a mean, yet sleek drivable
race car that is capable of sprinting from 0-62 mph in just 2.7
seconds and a top speed of 249 mph.
The Ferrari F1 Clienti program is the pinnacle of
recently-retired Ferrari Formula 1 cars. Here’s where the revs
jump to ear-plugs-necessary levels. An F1 car can accelerate from
0-62 mph in under two seconds and decelerate even faster. Ferrari
plans a full grid of these exceptional single-seat former F1
cars.
The stars of the Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series will visit
Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca September 7-9. The Continental Tire
Sports Car Series, powered by MAZDA, will feature competition in
the Daytona Prototype class, and the Grand Touring (GT) category.
Grand-Am racing events typically feature some of the most
exciting competition in all of racing, with drivers bumping and
barging their way past each other in the race to the checkered
flag.
The Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion is a cornerstone of
Monterey Peninsula’s Classic Car Week. The 2012 event’s featured
marque is the iconic Shelby Cobra. Only around 550 vehicles will
be accepted, based on the car’s authenticity, race provenance and
period correctness. Nearly every decade of motorsports history
will be represented in what is described as a museum springing to
life.
It is with a heavy heart that we report the passing of auto and
motor racing legend Carroll Shelby, who died Thursday night at
Baylor Hospital in Dallas. He was 89 and the longest living
double transplant recipient.
The Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca family will miss the Texan who
forever changed the sports car racing landscape with the iconic
Shelby Cobra, which celebrates its 50th anniversary this year at
the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion.

Muscle Milk Pickett Racing cruised to its second straight victory
in the American Le Mans Series presented by Tequila Patrón on
Friday at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. But another thrilling GT
battle stole the show as Corvette Racing’s Oliver Gavin and Tommy
Milner also took their second consecutive class win.
